Designs from El Dorado

Gold. Is the contradictory metal which, at the same time, means human beating and greed.
The myth of El Dorado has been the maximun exponent of the magical idea of riches to the cultures of occident.

The crude gold was carried to the gold work houses where was grinded with big stones.
when it was almost dust, they mixed it wiht copper to make TUMBAGA, witch was far more easy to melt.
They made forms with Tumbaga wiht the lost wax technique, and later made the Templado: to
warm them, to put them in freezing water, to hammer them, to take over the impurity and finally, gave them resistance.

The skills of the goldsmiths is evident when you look at these photographs made at their home nation: Colombia. Their designs and ability of abstraction are amazing.

Their direct descendents, modern natives beneath two worlds, sometimes come down from their sacred mountains to admire the work at the Museum of Gold of Bogotá. They look at the figures with respect and nostalgia.

This is our sincére homage to the artist and designers form these dissappeared cultures, and their legar to the humanity.
